SIC Department of Commerce and Other Policies

As the federal department where NOAA resides, the Department of Commerce (DOC) Policy related to scientific integrity is aligned with Federal policy and public law.  The original 2011 DOC Policy takes the form of a memorandum that was developed in response to an OSTP Memorandum in 2010.  The Department’s current policy is being updated to align with Federal-wide guidance, policy, public law, and other DOC administrative orders and policies.

DOC Implementation of Administration Policy on Scientific Integrity (2011)
Public Communications – Department of Commerce Administrative Order (DAO) 219-1

Individuals from Department of Commerce (DOC) organizational elements, bureaus, or operating units that do not have established Scientific Integrity Officers and have questions related to potential scientific misconduct or scientific integrity related concerns may contact the NOAA SIO (research.misconduct@noaa.gov) or NIST SIO (NISTScientificIntegrity@nist.gov) for a pre-allegation consultation or to submit an allegation.

NOAA and NIST will use their respective procedures for addressing allegations, in collaboration with relevant DOC organizational elements, bureaus, or operating units.
